Ransom Pier’s music sits confidently at the intersection of Seventies rock and soul music, directly descended from that of the Band, Bill Withers, and Bonnie Raitt. An infectiously funky rhythm section and layered vocal harmonies underpin the timeless voice of lead vocalist and songwriter Hayley Harrington to deliver a sound that is both classic and unapologetically modern. Already in their brief career, Ransom’s performances have been received with tremendous enthusiasm by audiences of all ages.
A song is as good as the story it tells. It is this philosophy that places Hayley Harrington’s timeless voice and self-aware lyrics firmly at the foundation of Queens-based Ransom Pier’s creative signature. The remaining five members of the roots rock outfit round out the musical soundscape with colors derived from the rich traditions of Motown, Beale Street, and the Appalachian foothills. Piano keys dance joyfully in concert with guitars that wail and gently weep, layers of vocal harmonies, and a primal pulse of bass and percussion. The resultant mix consistently garners deep appreciation knowing no generational bounds. Barely a year into their career, Ransom Pier has already received favorable comparisons to their indie rock forebears the Alabama Shakes and Lake Street Dive.
Following a tour to Nashville and electric debuts at New York City’s Rockwood Music Hall and historic Bitter End, the band recently began working on their sophomore EP, set for release in the fall of 2016. A song is as good as the story it tells. The musings of Ransom Pier are those you will most certainly want to hear again and again.
